If you’ve followed our stories you’ve seen us share several posts regarding the Black Lives Matter Movement. You have not, however, seen, heard or read our ‘take’ on any of it. That’s because we are learning and following the lead of the people and organizations that we love and trust. We understand that trust is everything. We hope the black community can learn to trust us, Boutique Fitness, to be an ally and supporter.
Social activism has always been a part of my upbringing. My mother was a very outspoken singer/songwriter in the Azores as the movement to overthrow the dictatorship was growing. I was raised to believe in the power of people, and I do. Whole heartedly. The culture at Boutique Fitness has always been centered on love and acceptance. We may not announce everything we do to participate in the fight for equality, nor should we be expected to. The bottom line is that it’s not just something we are doing now… it’s been a part of our fabric.
We continue to learn. And we have learned that in the grand scheme of things, what we have been doing is not enough. We do promise that we will keep this fight in our dialogue. We will listen and lend a hand and we will follow the lead of our brothers and sisters. We are committed to being a safe space for all people and we will never tolerate hate or racism.
There is so much that can be said about the gravity of injustice, but we have learned that there is so much more that must be done about it.
With a heavy yet hopeful heart,
