In deed, there is a method behind the madness. Clients will often tell me that walking into a big gym is overwhelming. Even if they know how to use the equipment, they still feel a little lost and end up wandering around, fusing together a hodge-podge of exercises until they are totally bored and decide to finish up on the elliptical. They love our small group training sessions because all the planning has been taken care of for them. I know at times it may seem like perfectly orchestrated chaos (complete with laughter and sweat- of course!), but I assure you that the most careful thought goes into our program design.
A balanced total body workout in 30 minutes requires a few key components:
Programming that is deliberately balanced. This means not overtaxing one movement pattern and ignoring another. For example, boot camps and group fitness classes often fall into overdoing pressing movements. Push ups and overhead presses are easy to accommodate in large groups with minimal equipment, but without complementary pulling movements, chest and anterior shoulder overdevelop and tighten at the detriment of posture and injury. Some other ways to ensure balance- include moving in all planes of space (up, down, forward, back, transverse and side to side), and training unilaterally (one arm or leg at a time).
Programming that addresses function and aesthetics. A strong core is paramount to a body that works well. As much as I’d like to say that we can crunch our way to a 6 pack abs, that’s just not what our abdominal muscles are designed to do. (We can talk nutrition another time.) Our core is is the girdle that prevents our insides from hanging out the front of us. It creates central stiffness to transfer power throughout our body, and protects our spine, holding us tall and proud. With this understanding, we train abs accordingly- resistinging lower back extension, and rotation as well as lateral flexion. What does this mean for our clients- lots of plank work, rollouts and the like. It means a stable core, healthy back and awesome posture.
Programming that is organized for maximum results. Our exercise selection and arrangement is meticulously chosen with results in mind. Workouts are periodized for continued progression in strength, power, and conditioning. Some workouts will be a little “heavier” and others a little more “breathy”, and we have a magical way of getting you to do those movements that your really need as well as the ones you truly enjoy.
Our passionate coaches and efficient workouts will rock your world.
