There are several opportunities throughout the year to revamp our routines. With the changes of the seasons comes changes in commitments, and with each one it seems we need a ‘grace period’ so we can settle in to the new routine. But the one constant routine that should be a given is our self-care.
Yes, that term gets used a lot, and quite frankly we much prefer the term YOUtine. Because if your daily routine doesn’t start with serving YOU, then you’ve got it all wrong. You couldn’t possibly be all you need to be for everyone else if you don’t take care of yourself first.
Washing your face with a lovely non-toxic cleanser and wearing a luscious lipgloss is not a luxury. Making time for your sweat session no matter what is not selfish. Drinking 70+oz of water and getting in all your steps is not reserved for workplace challenges. Going to bed early when the house isn’t totally clean is not irresponsible. And feeding your family vegetables is not mean!
Please do not apologize to anyone for taking the time, the money, or whatever other resources you need to make you feel in control of your YOUtine. It does not take much of anything other that the commitment to yourself and the fundamental understanding that you are worth it. In fact, you owe it to yourself and everyone you love to take great care of you. And if you’re a parent, what a beautiful lesson to teach your children. Not only do they need to learn patience so you can have your YOUtine, but that’s something they need to carry with them for life.
Self loathing is rampant and it stops with us. Here’s a book recommendation if you feel like you need more convincing, but trust me, you were placed on this earth to shine bright. Only you can commit to making that happen. We can commit to being your village.
