What’s all the Hype about Collagen?

A note from Angela

Collagen is a protein found naturally in our body. It is a unique blend of amino acids that provide structure and support to everything from our hair, skin and nails to our muscles, bones and blood vessels. Unfortunately collagen production decreases as we age. Collagen supplementation is a fantastic way to replenish it.

Reported benefits include: better digestion, improvements to hair, skin and nails, and reduced hunger and cravings. It also supports joint health and detoxification. Anecdotally I can confirm that after supplementing regularly for a month, I noticed improvement in the luster of my hair and skin and a dramatic improvement in a chronic shoulder injury. I have heard many similar stories from clients.

I love the Vital Proteins we carry at Boutique Fitness. The peptides are responsibly derived  from pasture raised bovine and marine sources. The Beauty Waters have added hyaluronic acid for even more skin benefits. Collagen supplements are really well tolerated by most people, and are not likely to cause the gas and bloating you may see from other protein powders. It is super easy to incorporate in your diet. The peptides are tasteless and odorless so you can add them to just about anything. I add a scoop to my morning coffee, it mixes well into yogurt and smoothies, and can even be used in sauces and baked goods!
