Love thyself
We are surrounded by reminders to be kind and spread love. Arguably, the most important recipient from your efforts is you.
Working out, eating well, staying hydrated, a monthly deep tissue massage, spending quality time with those you love, getting your hair and nails ‘did’, taking an afternoon nap… We all need recovery (showing love) from… work (physical and mental), obligations, and stress.
I admit, I’ve noticed a shift where more and more people are equating rest and recovery with self care and pampering. The day at the spa has begun to trickle into the home with a purposeful bedtime regimen, which ultimately leads to better recovery, easier mornings, and happier people 🙂
Sleep is a hot topic in the wellness world. There is much discussion about how much sleep people actually need to thrive, but there is also a general acceptance that whatever amount of sleep works for you, it must be quality sleep.
Deepak Chopra said that sleep is your access to ‘order from chaos’. ‘Let me sleep on it’, commonly said to express the need to settle into a thought or concept and make a clear headed decision on how to move forward.
Andrew Huberman has gone into detail about Non-Sleep Deep Rest, which is essentially a meditative state you can teach yourself when sleep seems elusive. It allows your body and mind to recover even if you don’t actually reach REM sleep. Great for napping, but also very powerful on a restless night.
I’m a huge fan of naps. If you can train your body to nap well, just a 10 minute nap will really rock your world. Here’s a great napping trick I learned years ago that has absolutely been a game changer: Drink a small cup of coffee, set your ‘alarm’ for 20 minutes and take a nap. It takes about 20 minutes for caffeine to kick in, so when your alarm goes off, you’ll wake up super refreshed!
The old-timer belief that the bedroom is no place for a television is not so old-timer anymore. More and more people are learning to eliminate the tube from the bedroom. Your bedroom is a place for getting dressed, undressed, sleeping and intimacy. It’s a sacred space and you owe it to yourself to allow your sacred space to be peaceful and restful – a haven for recovery.
Do you want to sleep like a baby?
Learn to become one with your bedtime. Bedtime means the rituals you adopt to help you truly unwind and turn off the ‘noise’ IRL… without your phone or computer. It’s an opportunity to pamper yourself into relaxation. Whether it’s a bubble bath, a foam rolling session, dry brushing followed by a hot shower and some soothing moisturizer… Make sure to show yourself some love at least a little before catching your Z’s, and allow your health to flourish! Pamper and Sleeeeeeeep…
You can’t fully feel the love without first tapping into gratitude. Feeling and expressing gratitude is the foundation for love and therefore, for all we want to accomplish in life.
Goal setting that makes your soul smile
When thinking about the goals you want to achieve it will help to fill your heart first. Expressing gratitude is no doubt the most powerful tool for achieving success. As is acknowledging what is going well. The idea is that you build off a positive mindset and set positive intentions. You may have some big audacious goals, which is great, but here we will focus on the smaller goals that will help you get there.
The first step is to recognize whole-heartedly 3 things you’re grateful for. Then to humbly recognize 2 things that are going well. Finally, focusing on one goal at a time – something that is attainable within a week (like pampering yourself 😉
