When I first started training clients (19 years ago), I quickly learned that they will do almost anything you ask of them as long as they get their stretch at the end of the session. Those who have felt the benefit of being stretched are more able to correlate stretching with gaining relief from everyday aches and pains. Stretching is not just for athletes.
I also learned that for as long as you do it for them, they will not do it for themselves. That’s mostly because they are not sure how. Assisted stretching positions the client to receive the stretch… Positioning that could look very different or may not be accessible to them if they are stretching on their own.
So in addition to manually stretching clients, I also began to teach them simple routines they can do at home. Guided stretching is a great way to dive into the potential of a stretch with reassurance that you’re on the right track. It helps maximize your position for a series of stretches that can cover many bases.
And then there is PNF stretching. This is the holy grail of assisted stretched. It’s interactive and helps build strength through the joints while increasing flexibility in the soft tissue. This is what the new Mobility Room at Boutique Fitness will mostly focus on. It takes assisted stretching to a whole new level! Here’s some more info on the Mobility Room and what a stretch session has to offer:
The benefits of assisted stretching
The benefits of assisted stretching are numerous and can have a profound impact on one’s physical and mental health. Whether you are an athlete looking to enhance performance, someone seeking to alleviate muscle tightness, or simply looking to improve flexibility and mobility, assisted stretching can be a valuable addition to your wellness regimen.
What is assisted stretching?
Assisted stretching, also known as facilitated stretching, offers a wide array of benefits that can improve flexibility, range of motion, and overall physical well-being. By engaging in assisted stretching sessions, you can experience enhanced muscle relaxation, reduced muscle tension, and improved posture. This form of stretching can also help prevent injuries, increase blood circulation, and promote better athletic performance.
One of the key advantages of assisted stretching is the ability to target specific muscle groups with precision, allowing for a more effective and tailored stretching experience. Sessions are conducted by trained professionals who provides guidance and support to ensure proper form and technique.
Moreover, assisted stretching can be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, helping you release stress and tension both physically and mentally. By incorporating assisted stretching into your routine, you can enjoy improved mobility, reduced muscle soreness, and a greater sense of overall relaxation and well-being.
What is guided stretching?
In guided stretching, your coach will teach you simple and effective stretches that you can do on your own to help your body feel its best. Guided stretching focuses on form and function to maximize a stretch for flexibility and mobility.
What you can expect from the Mobility Room
Stretch appointments are 30 or 60 minutes.
Your first session will include a quick postural assessment and a general full body stretch focused on main areas (Thoracic spine, hips, quadriceps, and hamstrings).
Sessions begin with a warm up for your soft tissue and some light movement to work into your range of motion.
Depending on where you need the attention, your coach will customize your series of stretches to help you get the most from your session.
We mostly use the PNF method for stretching, which means that your sessions will be interactive.
What is PNF?
PNF stretching (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) is a highly effective technique used to increase flexibility and range of motion in muscles. This form of stretching involves a combination of stretching and contracting muscles to improve both flexibility and strength.
By incorporating PNF stretching into your regular routine, you can help prevent injuries, improve muscle performance, and enhance overall flexibility. It is a valuable technique for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and individuals looking to improve their physical well-being.
